Is Your Website Copy Turning Visitors Away?

4 Common Copy Mistakes to Avoid

Since I know time is everyone’s most valuable asset (because time is money), I want to share 4 things you might be doing with your website copy that could be costing you money.

  1. Making it centered around you. If someone lands on your website, assume they are looking for a solution. Not a long bio about who you are as an individual and why you started this business. If they want to see that, they can visit your About section.

  2. Being so long-winded that you lose your reader. While you don’t want to be so concise that you don’t take your reader on a journey, you also don’t want to drag things out and make it hard for your reader to find the valuable information they came looking for. There’s a happy medium—find what that happy medium is for you.

  3. Forgetting that the structure is almost as important as the words themselves. Humans not only enjoy things that are aesthetically appealing; we are wired to consume information effectively when it’s in a layout that makes the words easier to digest. This means making good use of white space, bold, italicizing, and using bullet points and photos. We love a good photo!

  4. Using yawn-worthy CTAs. It’s not about being clever with your CTA; it is about making it 2-3 words long to make it more actionable. And making sure it’s in active voice, because quite frankly, active voice performs better with copywriting. The rule is that you want your CTA button to tell your reader what they are getting if they click the button.

Effective website copy means more sales and more leads. If you’re getting website traffic but it isn’t converting, your messaging needs tweaking.
