3 Mistakes I Made With My Messaging Before I Became a Copywriter

There were a lot of messaging mistakes I made in my last business. Ones that likely costed potential customers. But it's okay because everything is 20/20 in hindsight right?

So, I’m sharing 3 mistakes I made in my messaging before I became a copywriter. This way, you don’t have to make these same mistakes in your business.

1. I tried really hard to make things sound good. Effective copy doesn’t simply sound good. It uses proven strategies that help your audience feel seen and make informed buying decisions around your offers.

2. I wrote whatever I felt like writing, instead of writing to evoke an emotion in my audience. Evoking an emotion with your messaging is a key factor in helping your audience understand your offer is exactly what they need to solve their problem, or create an outcome they see for themselves.

3. I didn’t tell enough stories. Stories are the things that make us memorable and easier to connect with. Whether you’re sharing brand stories or personal ones, it lets your audience in, builds trust, and makes them more curious about you.

Writing the copy in your business doesn’t have to be complicated. But it does need to be intentional and strategic. Your words are often the first interaction leads will have with you. Whether it’s via your website, the caption underneath your post, or your social media bio. So, make your words count!
